Members:

Buttons and I were privileged to visit the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine the weekend of October 22, 2010 to attend the opening of the new veterinary teaching hospital. We were there representing the Caloosa Society for the $25,000 donation made which got our name on the door of one of the 23 exam rooms in the hospital.

We have pictures available for you to view, they are not professional by any means, but hopefully will give you a glimpse of the hospital. There are 23 exam rooms, treatment areas, clinical rounds areas, 12 operating rooms and 13 patient surgery preparation areas, extensive x-ray and CT and MRI facilities. That only covers a small portion of the 100,000 sq. ft. building.

It is definitely designed for the teaching of veterinary students with meeting rooms, conference rooms, study areas, and all of the latest computer and video technology that one can think of. Unlike the crowded space in the current hospital there will be, and is, lots of space to provide the best veterinary service possible.

Dean Glenn Hoffsis spoke, as did others, and told us that over the next few years the plan is to expand the class size to 120 students ( As best as I can remember that’s the goal) which the new facility is very adequately designed for.

If you have an opportunity, visit the School and take a look. The students graduating from UFL CVM will have been trained in the finest facility in the United States.

Sincerely,
Dick Carpenter
